Ma, when got married at the age of 16, got a sewing machine as a gift.
Dad was an ironworker in Indian Railway. Making two ends meet was extremely difficult with 5 children.
Ma started sewing clothes for people. The foot-operated manual sewing machine would start at 6 am and stop at 9 pm every day including holidays. Many a time basic meals were served on the sewing machine. Dad also worked for heavily labor-intensive job for 12 hours a day. This went on for 30 years.
Every penny earned was utilized for food and education of the children.
Unfortunately, they are not here to see how well off their children are.
